Timothy Ogunbiyi is a Nigerian Pianist, keyboardist, composer and arranger. He was born and raised in Lagos Nigeria.
His earliest musical influence was in his parent’s local church where he learnt how to play the drums.
He always had a passion for music but never had a formal musical training until after high school when he decided to study music professionally against the wish of his parents who at the time wanted him to be an engineer.
He enrolled at the peter king college of Music Lagos where he studied jazz improvisation under the tutelage of peter king a renowned Jazz saxophonist and composer. After 2 years of studying, he was awarded a full scholarship into the Muson Diploma School of Music Lagos where he studied classical piano. He went on to acquire a Bachelors Degree in music from the University Of Lagos. During this time, he was very active in the Lagos jazz scene and was often seen playing with both local and international artists.
In 2016, he attended the NY Jazz workshop and had the opportunity of meeting other musicians from different parts of the world as well as playing in different jam sessions.
His first single Coast to Coast was released in 2017 and has since enjoyed air play on radio stations in Lagos, Kansas City and Australia. His music has been described by many as an eclectic fusion of Jazz and classical harmony with exotic underlying African rhythm.
In December 2017, Timothy moved to the United States where he is currently employed as a music director and also studying for a Masters degree in performance.
In March 2018, He gave a free recital at the Middle Town Arts center performing music from the classical and jazz repertoire as well as his own original compositions.
He is known to have a strong passion for community development which he shows by giving recitals and Master classes for free.
